Haruki Murakami. Vintage, 2012 - Fiction - 1318 pages. A mesmerising, epic, utterly involving masterpiece from Haruki Murakami. The year is 1Q84. This is the real world, there is no doubt about that. But in this world, there are two moons in the sky. In this world, the fates of two people, Tengo and Aomame, are closely intertwined. Noted Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami has penned a massive new novel. It's titled 1Q84, a nod to George Orwell's 1984. A young woman plunges into an alternate universe filled with love, mystery I finished 1Q84 - book 1 & 2 on Monday. Afterwards, I went running in the woods. I ran faster than I have in a while, and my thoughts went back and forth through my head, thinking of everything, anything and nothing at all. It then came to me, I was stuck in that world, Murakami's world. I was scared. In an article I wrote shortly after book 1 and 2 of 1Q84 was released in Japan, I therefore suggested using the term ‘Murakami Haruki’s female narratives’ to broadly categorize this group of works. The aim was to show that this group of works exists and to demonstrate how the works connect to the ‘female experience’ in contemporary ISBN: 9781846554070 - 1st Edition - Hardcover - Harvill Secker, London - 2011 - Condition: Very Good - Good - First printing. The first two books are constructed like the 'Well tempered piano of J.S. Bach' with two parts and each twelve chapters and alternating melodies that reply to each other. For me IQ84 describes the complex desideration of individuals for a natural state of consciousness. A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver’s enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 “Q is for ‘question mark.’.
