Legendary supercharged Mercedes-Benz power. Built as a 540 K Cabriolet B in 1938; rebodied and restored in the style of a Special Roadster between 2004 and 2006. The 500 K was available in various body styles, including coupe, sedan, various convertible options, and the top of the line Special Roadster. A limited production model with only 320 examples produced, the 500K was available until 1936 when it was replaced by the Mercedes-Benz 540K. In October 1936, Mercedes-Benz launched the 540K at the Paris Motor Show. It was an important upgrade over the 500 K Series, which was already on sale since 1934. The Special Roadster was the The straight-eight, OHV, twin-carburetted 540K displaced 5401cc, with a Roots-type supercharger engaged mechanically via the throttle pedal, its 0.5-bar delivering an additional 50kW, for peaks of 135kW and 431Nm plus a 180km/h top speed. Transmission was a four-speed manual; an optional overdrive fifth came later. Already a rare car, the 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster has a unique history: it was once owned by the Baroness Gisela Josephine von Krieger. 2.
